How long have you been in your industry?15-20 years
Why did you choose your industry?I think my industry chose me! I was kind of stumbling around working all types of jobs when I got an opportunity to get into TV/Film so I took it. From there I tried on a bunch of different hats until I figured out that Casting Director fit me best. During Covid we weren't filming so I started my first podcast and luckily people loved it... so I started another one. Now I cast tv/film and produce/host two podcasts. I also have a bikini business on the side.
Who are your typical clients? In the casting world my clients are usually producers and directors - people who are looking for actors for their project. I'm kind of the middle man between production and agents/managers/actors.In the podcast world, both of my podcasts are true crime and my listeners are mostly female, and listen from all over the world.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I love the creative aspect. When I'm casting, I give the producers/directors my thoughts on what actors would best fit in their project. I also love meeting people. In the podcast world, I love that I'm able to help people. I give a platform to people who otherwise wouldn't be able to tell their story: victims, families of missing people. I also give a lot of tips on how to stay safe out there!
What are common problems you see?I think in both industries, technology is always moving and changing so if you don't keep up - you'll be left behind. It can be difficult to stay on top of all the new ways to do things.
What advice/tips do you have for clients? In the casting world my biggest piece of advice is to always be kind. Be kind to people you work with, people you haven't worked with yet, and really anyone else out there. I've found some of the nicest people in the industry - and also the worst. I always hope the bad apples don't last long. In the podcast world my advice is to keep going and never give up.
When is your busy season? All year long!
What keeps you up at night?I often wonder if there's more I can be doing, what else I can add to my resume.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? As a casting director I work mostly word of mouth. I've been casting for many years and enough producers and directors know me or have worked with me to keep me very busy. My best marketing has always been to do a great job and treat everyone with kindness. In the podcast world, the best marketing is other podcasts. Giving a shout out to another podcast is the best way to get more listeners.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Do whatever makes you happy and continue to do it and work hard at it and you will succeed.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Traveling and hanging out with my boyfriend and animals. I have 3 dogs and a mini pig.
